About us…
Our industry lays a heavy burden on musicians, writers, and digital artists. It’s hard enough to hone a craft, let alone benefit from it and yet despite the righteous effort, it seems to get more difficult to justify the time. In this day and age when talents and income conflict, one must stand and the other must give way. All too often, craft and career are not the same choice; once upon a time, they were. Anyone could argue that life was harder back then, but in this way, life was easier. When craft and career are the same, life is more enjoyable and efficient.
Behny Entertainment, Arts, & Media (BEAM) was founded for the benefit of both art and the Artist. Not all artists can be exceptional, because if they all were, then not a one would be. However, an exceptional artist should not need to choose between craft and career; they deserve an opportunity for craft and career to be one in the same. As such, we believe that artists whose craft merits tribute ought to benefit from it as much as is practicable. We are not a talent agency, distributor, or a traditional media company; we are an at-will development company where creative types can secure as much involvement as they deem fit. The client is then able to promote their product in whichever way they choose and they get to retain the copyright over their intellectual property. This à la carte approach to content creation is accomplished through our four complimentary branches: Publishing, Records, Productions, & Performance.
In-house, this structure will permit us to develop content for the mind, heart, and spirit. Although, for the time-being, Publishing and Records will remain closed to new clients as our artist-in-residence puts these two departments through their paces. Please check out our shop to view and acquire his works. Productions and Performance on the other hand, are both open to a limited number of new clients. Someday we hope to offer our services openly, but for now we are only taking on work that will test our capabilities, grow our business, and solidify us as competitive. Please, read on to learn more about our four departments…
Why start a publishing company with digital content on the rise? Because there will always be a strong market for paper music, no matter how advanced modern technology becomes. Our artist-in-residence also recognizes the demand for well-written, original music for people who play handbells, pipe organ, or piano. This department’s mission is to produce high-quality sheet music that looks and feels as great as it sounds.
We use Accent© Opaque Digital 70# Text, Smooth, acid-free paper, copper-finished staples, and an Epson© Wide-Format printer to produce all our paper music. Each title comes with generous “About” sections to understand the piece and the composer, detailed rehearsal notes for tough or odd sections in the music, and cover art designed by the composer. Finer details include plain-text song information across the top quarter-inch for easy reference, extra margin on the spine side for musicians who prefer to hole-punch their music, and a lowered chance of smudging or scuffing the paper or print when attempting to erase mark-ups.
BEAM Publishing is currently our most active department. Our website went live with a handful of titles ready to order with more on the way. For the time-being, sheet music will be this department’s primary focus, but someday we hope to offer novels, graphic novels, and paperbacks. We predict that as the market continues to march closer to digitizing all available printed media, the ability to enjoy these mediums in a tactile fashion will stay in healthy demand.
There’s something magically electric about producing albums! Recorded music is one of the earliest unions of art and science in the modern era. For BEAM, it is a natural pairing for our Publishing department: There will be people who want to play our recorded music, and there will be people who want to listen to our printed music. This department’s mission is to produce high-quality audio tracks of original music that can be enjoyed on any speaker arrangement.
Our staff here at BEAM has decades worth of experience in music. Teachers and experts have trained our ears and attention to what good sound is and what it could be. For studio recording, use of ribbon microphones will be employed at every available opportunity, gratuitous sound damping foam will isolate the subject, and shielding in both signal and power cables will offer significantly reduced electromagnetic interference. Physical media is the focus, so albums will be recorded onto high-durability compact discs, feature full-color cover art, and include information about every track.
Our artist-in-residence is in the early stages of developing his first album with us. Right now, he is working on a new collection of music for our Publishing department to have ready by Summer 2020. After his hand in that is completed, BEAM Records will commence production of his album. The proposed content is Christmas music and he has performing abilities that include singing, piano, violin, percussion, and handbells. Rumor has it that he has convinced his brothers, who all have many years of musical experience as well but have chosen different careers, to accompany him on a few tracks. We’ll just have to wait to find out…
With a process structure like this, you need people who are up to the task to deliver and know what it means to create content for the mind, heart, and spirit. To learn more about the people that make up BEAM, check out our Staff page.
