This is the title line that appears on our new page covering the topic of copyright.

Copyright is important for a multitude of reasons. It’s also abused for many other reasons. No matter which side of the debate you find yourself on, certainly we can all agree, it is important. Copyright is an idea our founding fathers had anticipated when they formed our great country. In fact, it was on August 18th, 1787, that James Madison proposed to the Constitutional Convention what would become Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 of the Constitution, granting Congress authority to make copyright (and eventually patent and trademark) laws. They knew that to benefit both our society and our citizens, the protection of ideas as property was integral to ensuring our growth and livelihood for one and for all. People naturally need an incentive to pursue long term goals and dreams because theft discourages success. The idea of securing that future as an individual right at the time, was novel.

Fast forward 250 years; we find ourselves at a time where, despite the uncertainties our global, political, and societal climate may present, we know that our property, including intangible property, is still a secure asset. Now, you can’t really take advantage of what you got unless you know how to use it, right? Right. That is the purpose of this new page on our site. It accomplishes three things: 1) It will educate readers on the nuances of copyright law in an easy-to-read format, 2) It makes apparent all responsibilities our customers, our clients, our artists, and we here at BEAM have to ourselves and to each other, and 3) It ensures that everyone gets a fair shake at success.

Now before you go and try to pick apart the nitty-gritty details of our newest (and most overhead intensive) page on our site, know that there is a disclaimer on that page that states that we here at BEAM are not lawyers and that the information presented on that page is for informational purposes only and should not be taken for explicit legal advice. Whew, that was a mouthful! Look, we are a business. At the end of the day, we have priorities and assets to protect. We will do whatever it takes to ensure our artists are compensated for what they deserve. It’s hard work writing new, original music for people to enjoy and it’s also difficult to bring this new content to the masses in a way they can appreciate. We have every reason to serve our customers, but we have twice as many reasons to serve our artists. Be fair, stay aboveboard, and play nice. Remember, everyone here at BEAM is pulling for ya: we’re all in this together.

On behalf of everyone at Behny Entertainment, Arts, & Media,

Thank you for your support!
